About The Guinndex

One weird question, asked at scale.

The Guinndex is an independent side project by two AI engineers, Matt Cortland and John Fleming, trading as Prime Directive AI. They built an AI voice agent, nicknamed Rachel, that phones pubs and asks one question: how much for a pint of Guinness?

They started in Ireland, where it went viral. The UK version has now indexed 46,235+ pubs across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with real people topping up the data by submitting what they actually paid at the bar.

It has been shared widely on TikTok and X, with people using it to settle pub arguments, plan nights out, and check they’re not being overcharged.

Not affiliated with Guinness or Diageo The Guinndex is an independent project, unconnected to Guinness, Diageo, or any related entity. Worth knowing before this goes anywhere public-facing.

More Than Just Prices

The bits that make it shareable.

Alongside the price index, The Guinndex mines its own dataset for pub trivia, exactly the kind of thing that gets shared in a group chat.

The UK’s Perfect Pubs

210 pubs hold a flawless 5.0 Google rating with 20+ reviews, mostly in small towns, not city centres.

Change For a Fiver

A running list of pubs where a pint still costs £5 or less, cheapest spotted so far is £2.94.

The Guinness Equator

A live North/South price divide: the North averages meaningfully cheaper than the South.

Best (and Oddest) Names

527 Red Lions, 202 Dragons, 134 “Ye Olde” pubs, and one Ye Olde Smack.

37 Years of Pint Prices

ONS drink-price data back to 1987, charted alongside today’s Guinndex numbers.

County Ratings

Best and worst UK counties by average Google rating, county by county.

Worth Five Minutes

Why a landlord should care about this.

There’s no discount here, so here’s the honest case for spending five minutes on it.

1

Check your listing is right. Rachel’s calls aren’t perfect, an AI voice agent can mishear a price, and prices change. A wrong figure is now public.

2

Correcting it takes seconds. Find your pub, hit Contribute, submit the real price. Every correction is timestamped and logged publicly.

3

Free exposure if you stand out. A 5.0 rating, an unusual name, or a great story can land a pub in one of Guinndex’s viral trivia lists, seen well beyond the usual pub-marketing audience.

4

It's genuinely being shared. Real people are finding pubs through this on TikTok and X, not a marketing claim, visible in their own public reactions.

People kept asking for the UK, so here we are.

Why This Matters

Free exposure is still exposure.

Most pubs can’t afford a marketing budget, let alone a viral one. The Guinndex has already been shared organically across TikTok and X by people who found it useful, for free, without a pub paying a penny for it.

Making sure your pub shows up accurately, and correctly, costs nothing and takes minutes. Whether that’s worth the five minutes is a fair thing to weigh up, but it’s not a hard ask.

The Guinndex is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Guinness, Diageo, or any related entity. Figures shown are AI-collected and crowd-contributed, accuracy is not guaranteed, and prices are correctable via the site’s public Contribute flow.
