🍺  A Grassroots Campaign — United Kingdom

Save Britain’s Beating Heart

From market towns to city centres, our beloved pubs are disappearing at an alarming rate. These aren’t just buildings — they’re the soul of our communities, where friendships are forged, stories are shared, and British culture lives and breathes.

What Is Save British Pubs?

A campaign by people who genuinely care

Save British Pubs was created by former and current publicans, industry suppliers, and ambassadors who believe that something can — and must — be done. Not just lobbying government and waiting, but acting now, together as a community.

We know that numerous campaigns are working to push for legislative change. We fully support that work. But while it continues, pubs are closing today. Communities are losing their living rooms. And once they’re gone, they’re gone forever.

Save British Pubs exists to mobilise everyone who cares — pub owners, their customers, suppliers, and supporters — into a force that changes behaviour, changes business, and ultimately changes the law.

The Crisis

This isn’t a slow decline.
It’s an emergency.

Pub owners are being squeezed from every direction — unfair taxation, soaring energy costs, disproportionate business rates, and a regulatory burden that no other sector faces in the same way. Most of it completely outside their control.

The British pub has survived wars, recessions, and pandemics. But the combination of pressures facing the sector today is unprecedented — and without action, thousands more will close for good.

📈
Unfair Taxation Pubs pay VAT on food and drink sales that supermarkets don’t. The same pint costs far more to serve in a pub than to sell off a supermarket shelf.
Energy & Running Costs Energy bills have surged, with many pub owners on out-of-contract rates. Combined with rising minimum wage and National Insurance increases, margins have been decimated.
🏠
Communities Losing Their Heart When a pub closes, the elderly lose a social lifeline. Sports clubs lose their home. Neighbours lose the place where they come together. The loss is permanent — they rarely reopen.
📄
20%+ Technically Insolvent Over a fifth of remaining British pubs are technically insolvent. One bad week, one unexpected bill, one quiet winter — that’s all it takes.
Get Involved

We all have a role to play.
Which one is yours?

Whether you run a pub, love one, supply one, or simply want to help — there’s a place for you in this campaign.

“Once they’re gone, they’re gone forever.”

Every day we wait, another pub closes. Every pub that closes is a community that loses something irreplaceable. The time to act is now.
